Dr. Zhude Tu received his B.S. in chemistry in 1988 and his Ph.D. in radiopharmaceutical chemistry in 1995 from Beijing Normal University, China. He accomplished his postdoctoral training in the Department of Radiology at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. In the summer of 2002, Dr. Tu started his faculty career as an instructor in Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Due to his exceptional accomplishments and contribution to the PET program of Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology; he was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2006 and Associate Professor in 2013.
Dr. Tu’s group has been focusing on developing small-molecule PET imaging agents for neuroimaging, cancer imaging and cardiovascular imaging. Due to the efforts of his group and colleagues, seven PET agents had been transferred into clinical investigation; two PET agents are planning to begin clinical investigation in later of this year. For routinely PET radiopharmaceutical production, Dr. Tu’s efforts include trouble-shooting automation and quality control of PET radiopharmaceuticals.
Due to the outstanding performance, his group’s researches have been supported by federal agencies, NIH, DOE, DOD and other foundations. Dr. Tu’s efforts have generated numeric patents and peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Tu has been invited to review grant applications and articles that cover radiopharmaceutical chemistry, medicinal chemistry and other life science related areas.
Except contribution to development and production for PET agents for preclinical and clinical applications, Dr. Tu is a very good mentor for young investigators. Postdocs, graduate students and visiting scholars who had received training from his lab, now are independent faculty members or senior investigators in different institutes in USA and China.
